Josephine Daskam Bacon

Josephine Daskam Bacon (Josephine Dodge Daskam, also known as Mrs. Selden Bacon. February 17th, 1876 – July 29th, 1961) was an American author.

Josephine Daskam Bacon 2Little is known about her life. Daskam Bacon attended Smith College, and graduated in 1898. She then moved to New York, where she contributed stories and essays for various periodicals, such as McClure’s Magazine, Harper’s Bazar, The Smart Set, Scribner’s, The Atlantic Monthly, and The Saturday Evening Post.

In 1900, she published her first book, Smith College Stories, about her college experiences. Her major success came with the satire The Memoirs of a Baby (1904), which was a national bestseller.

In 1903, Daskam Bacon married Selden Bacon, and they had three children. Her husband died in 1946.

When her daughters were young, she worked for the national Girl Scouts, served as the editor of the American Girl magazine, and edited the handbook Scouting for Girls (1920).

Josephine Daskam Bacon died in 1961.
