R.I.P. – R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril XVI & Ladies of Horror Readathon

Hi, folks!

I am yet to wrap up my Summer reading, but the days are shorter, some leaves have slowly begun to turn yellow, and this can only mean one thing:

R.I.P. – R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril

Our beloved R.I.P., created in 2006 by Carl at Stainless Steel Droppings, is now happening on Twitter and Instagram, carried on by Heather @capriciousreader, Andi @estellasrevenge, and Kelly @bookishnerd. The event takes place from September 1st, 2021 through October 31st, 2021, and it is now in its sixteenth year! This is surely enough to make one feel like an old blogging soul forever haunting the interwebs

As always, the main idea is to read books from one or more of the following categories (aka Peril of the Fiction Read):

Mystery // Suspense // Thriller // Gothic // Horror // Dark Fantasy // Supernatural

– or anything sufficiently moody that shares a kinship with the above! 🎃👻

This year, our peril hosts have created a Discord server for all things RIP related, where they will be discussing our Peril of the Group Read: Shirley Jackson’s The Sundial (1958). ✨

A new challenge this year is the Peril of the Listen, which comprises audiobooks, music, and podcasts. Finally, this year, there will also be a Readers Imbibing Peril Bingo:

Another great event will overlap with R.I.P this year:

Ladies of Horror Fiction Readathon

LOHF is a two-week readathon cohosted by the Ladies of Horror Fiction & Alex @the_bookubus. The event will run from September 1st to September 15th, 2021, and the idea is simply to to read as many LOHF books as you can.

Y’all know I can never resist a Lady of Lit, much less one of Horror Lit, so I am jumping in and doing the two events in tandem (and possibly combining it with our traditional Victober – more on that later).

Without further ado, here is my combined TBR for RIP & LOHF:

Finally, here are some books I recommend for the season:

That’s all for now, folks. What will you be reading? Tell me about it. 🧙🏻‍♀️

Yours truly,
