My life in books | 2020

Hi, folks!

I saw this meme at Karen‘s blog today and thought it would be fun to do it. I have done something similar in 2019 and 2018, and this new set of prompts was picked up from Annabel. The idea is to answer them using only the titles of books you read in 2020. Laura has also done this meme, so check her out!

Using only books you have read in the past year, answer these questions:

  • In high school I was In Transit (Brigid Brophy, 1969)
  • People might be surprised by Virginia Woolf’s Women (by Vanessa Curtis, 2002)
  • My life in lockdown was like Disease, Desire, and the Body in Victorian Women’s Popular Novels (by Pamela K. Gilbert, 1997)
  • My fantasy job is Square Haunting (by Francesca Wade, 2020)
  • At the end of a long day I need A Taste of Honey (by Shelagh Delaney, 1958)
  • I hate being The Handyman (by Penelope Mortimer, 1984)
  • Wish I had A Phantom Lover (by Vernon Lee, 1886)
  • My family reunions are These Fevered Days (by Martha Ackmann, 2020)
  • At a party you’d find me with The Immoralist (by André Gide, tr. Dorothy Bussy, 1930. Original: L’Immoraliste ,1902)
  • I’ve never been to The Living Mountain (by Nan Shepherd, 1977)
  • A happy day includes One Way of Love (by Gamel Woolsey. Novel written in 1931-32, published in 1987)
  • Motto I live by: We Are Made Of Diamond Stuff (by Isabel Waidner, 2019)
  • On my bucket list is The Romance of a Shop (by Amy Levy, 1888)
  • In my next life, I want to have People in the Room (by Norah Lange, 2018, tr. Charlotte Whittle. Original: Personas en la sala, 1950)

That’s it. Feel free to have a go at it 🙂

Yours truly,

J.

  1. LOL! I love that last answer especially. How many of us before lockdowns and quarantine couldn’t find peaceful alone time enough and now wish…it sure would be nice to have human company!!!?

  2. If you wish to have a phantom lover, read The shape of night by Tess Gerritsen. Love your motto to live by! Yes, we are made to sparkle, but stronger than we probably think.

Great answers! I am a couple of days late with my post, but here it is! My Life in Books 2020 Edition
