The Republic of Consciousness Prize | 2020 Readalong invitation

Hi, folks!

As most of you know, The Republic of Consciousness is an annual British literary prize that rewards fiction published by UK and Irish small presses. Yesterday, they announced this year’s longlist, and I felt tempted to read through it. On our beloved bookish twitter, many people showed interest in participating in a readalong of the longlisted books, and one of them referred me to the discussion thread on The Mookse and the Gripes‘ group on Goodreads.

So, this is a longwinded way to invite you to read through the longlist along with us! I suggest below a reading schedule (it is more or less based on the time it will take me to get each book here in Germany, but we can change the schedule later, if you prefer):

Jan 27 – Feb 02

  • We are made of Diamond Stuff by Isabel Waidner (Dostoevsky Wannabe, 113 p.)
  • Patience by Toby Litt (Galley Beggar Press, 260 p.)

Feb 03 – Feb 09

  • Animalia by Jean-Baptiste Del-Amo, tr. Frank Wynne (Fitzcarraldo Editions, 424 p.)

Feb 10 – Feb 16

  • Leonard and Hungry Paul by Ronan Hession (Bluemoose Books, 245 p.)
  • Love by Hanne Ørstavik, tr. Martin Aitken (And Other Stories, 128 p.)

Feb 17 – Feb 23

  • Under Pressure by Faruk Šehić, tr. Mirza Purić (Istros Books, 166 p.)
  • Fatherhood by Caleb Klaces (Prototype Publishing, 160 p.)

Feb 24 – March 01

  • The Red Word by Sarah Henstra (Tramp Press, 352 p.)

March 02 – March 08

  • That Lonesome Valley by Melissa Lee-Houghton (Morbid Books, 112 p.)
  • El Llano in Flames by Juan Rulfo, tr. Stephen Beechinor (Structo Press, 216 p.)

March 09 – March 15

  • Aliasing by Mara Coson (Book Works, 125 p.)
  • Broken Jaw by Minoli Salgado (The 87 Press, 148 p.)

That’s all for now, folks! Let’s read through The Republic of Consciousness, shall we? 🙂

Yours truly,

Eve (detail), by Albrecht Durer
