Hello, folks,
It’s time for 20 Books of Summer! The event is hosted by Cathy over at the 746 Books blog. She has set herself a challenge to read 20 books between June, 3rd and September, 3rd this year. Anyone can join in, and you are free to choose your reading goal to 10 / 15 / 20 books, as fits your summer reading plans. 🙂
This year, I decided to go for a goal of 10 books. Here is my list:
- Middlemarch, by George Eliot
- Nada, by Carmen Laforet
- Fidelity, by Susan Glaspell
- The King of a Rainy Country, by Brigid Brophy
- Wuthering Heights, by Emily Brontë
- The Doll’s Alphabet, by Camilla Grudova
- Someone at a Distance, by Dorothy Whipple
- La Bâtarde, by Violette Leduc
- Speedboat, by Renata Adler
- Letty Fox: Her Luck, by Christina Stead
That’s all for now, folks! What are your reading projects for Summer? Do tell me about them.
Yours truly,
J.

Middlemarch is always a good choice. 🙂 Lots of interesting things on your list, including Whipple and Brophy, two writers I am keen to read myself. I don’t tend to do well when I make explicit reading plans, but your post made me think fondly back on the summer reading challenges my daughter and I used to do, sponsored by our public library.

Thank you, Rohan! I am ambivalent when it comes to making a TBR, but I enjoy so much taking part in 20 Books of Summer, that 10 books seem like a good compromise. 🙂

Ooo Nada is so good! And well, wuthering heights is my favorite book of all time, so. I approve of this list and look forward to your reviews.

Lovely. I’m also very keen to see what you think of the Leduc (which is new to me). You’ve got some great summer reading ahead of you there!

A very intriguing list! I’ve only read three of them, and I am most interested in the Brophy. Read one of hers, and keen to try more.

This is an amazing list. I would like to read “Nada” so bad. I have wanted to for a long time since I found out that it is Carmen Laforet’s existentialist debut and it is set in Barcelona.
