Hi, folks!
Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Sharlene from Real Life Reading, encouraging bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.
Here is what I got this week:
- The Pillow Book, by Sei Shōnagon, tr. Meredith McKinney (2006. Original: 枕草子, 1002)
- Convenience Store Woman, by Sayaka Murata, tr. Ginny Tapley Takemori (2018. Original: コンビニ人間, 2016)
- This will be my next read for the Japanese Literature Challenge 12, hosted by Meredith. I decided to check this book out after reading Natalie’s review. It is also this month’s pick for the Women of the World Goodreads Group, hosted by Kirsty and Katie.
- The Akhmatova Journals, Volume I: 1938-1941, by Lydia Chukovskaya, tr. Milena Michalski and Sylva Rubashova (1994. Original: Записки об Анне Ахматовой, Книга 1, 1980)
- This is a record of Chukovskaia’s meetings with Akhmatova. I don’t recall where I read about this book, but I have a feeling it must have been in one of Karen‘s posts on Russian literature (Please, correct me if I am wrong, Karen!).
- The Tale of Murasaki, by Liza Dalby (2001)
- Finally, this is my pick for the prompt “Japan pre-1900” at the historical fiction group Reading through the ages, hosted by Mel and Victoria.
That’s all for now, folks. What will you be reading in February? 😊
Yours truly.
J.

The Convenience Store Woman is really special, I think. I won’t soon forget it, especially after seeing them in real life this October. But, the remarkable part in the novel was the strength (and oddity) of the character.
So glad you’re joining in The Pillow Book!! I’m off to add you to the links. xo

Thank you, Bellezza! I will be starting to read the Pillow Book tonight, and I am looking foward to The Convenience Store Woman. I’ve just finished Territory of Light – loved it, and will try to write a review later this week 🙂

LOL! Well, it *should* have been me, especially as I’m sure I have one of Chukovskaya’s books on Akhmatova – but I can’t see any mention of it on my blog so maybe I just transmitted it telepathically! 😀
